This wedding will go into my memory bank, as one not to be forgotten!
Although I live in Derbyshire and really love it, I do get excited whenever I get to do the photography of a London wedding. As somewhere I lived for 8 years, our fabulous capital has so much to offer, especially if you’re getting married.
I was really looking forward to this wedding as I’d met Simon and Luiz at a previous London wedding a couple of years ago. Simon and Luiz are a fabulous couple, Simon is British and Luiz is Brazilian, so I knew this wedding would be exotic and colourful. I wasn’t disappointed!!
Simon & Luiz Wedding in Clapham Common, London was about to start, I was excited! Both Simon and Luiz got ready together and both wore suits, with the added twist of both wearing flip-flops.
The day was very sunny and hot, we were lucky that we had great weather and with flip-flops on most guests we hoped we would stay cool enough.
Simon and Luiz arrived in style on a TukTuk which set the tone of the entire day. This was gonna be a blast!
They got their wedding blessed at their local church, just a few blocks away from their house in Clapham Common, South London. The vicar at the church Deborah was fabulous, really friendly and down to earth and a joy to have lead the service. She sang, laughed and kept the light hearted vibe of it going, as well as wearing flip-flops!
There was singing and dancing in the aisles, something I can’t say I’ve seen in a church before. With songs like “The Girl from Ipanema” and “All you need is love” this wedding for me was all about being proud of who you are, singing it loudly and most of all, celebrating it so hard you would lift the roof off!
As well as all the singing there was also many tears and this was possibly the most emotional wedding I’ve photographed. As Simon and Luiz faced one another the tears started to stream for both of them, this was so emotional, that before long the whole congregation were crying too.
I was in bits most of the ceremony. As I stood at the front of the church, it really hit me how blessed we are now that men who love each other can get married in church and celebrate their love. This had me in tears of gratitude.
After the ceremony we all made our way to their house around the corner and had a summer reception under a marquee in their garden. With champagne flowing and canapes on the go this reception went with a swing!
Towards the end of my time they had a few informal speeches which ended up in lots of tears. So by the time I said goodbye to them both of them all my makeup had run off and I couldn’t wait to get a cold shower!
Here are a selection of images which I think will give you an idea of the vibe and spirit of this wonderful London wedding. Simon & Luiz Wedding in Clapham Common, London a beautiful day to remember!
